Well, I finally reached the stage where I realised that, after 19 years off the road and still as 'nearly finished' as it was all those years ago, there was a good chance that 'Reggie' would stay at the back of the garage for another 19 years! It wasn't that far off but there are always things that are more urgent to demand my time and attention. That, combined with the fact that I have become desperate for space, meant that it had to go.
I am pleased to report that I found its new owner, Pete, via the Practical Classics website and felt comfortable that he'd give it the respect it needs, being the owner of (amongst other things) a 1962 Skoda Octavia, a Barkas B1000, a Jensen Interceptor Convertible and the Janspeed Turbo Wood & Picket special-build Range Rover seen in the bottom picture. That's good, as Renault 30s in any condition are now as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth and need to be cherished with much TLC (especially as the bodywork on Renaults of that era is so thin that it's like working with a poorly-made tin can!)
It's a shame, really, as it had benefitted from new sills, a windows-out complete respray, rebuild of the rear braking system, the starter motor internal switching for the injection cold-start system, new dampers, loads of bushes and a whole range of other stuff.
I've no doubt I'll feel a few twinges of regret when I see it running again as it was a spectacularly gorgeous car to drive with that V6 injected engine burbling away and wafting you, if you weren't careful, to well over the legal limit before you even realised, in its massive and ludicrously comfortable giant armchair seats, with only wind and tyre noise once you'd got it above 2nd gear... but needs must ... it was the right thing to do and I still have the memories of it taking the mountains of North Wales and the moorlands of Yorkshire in its stride all those years ago.
